Former Globetrotter Eddie Fields’ Road to Delgado

Coach Eddie Fields is beginning his sixth season as the Lady Dolphins’ basketball head coach. Coach Fields is a graduate of East Jefferson High School in Metairie. Following graduation, he went on to play college basketball at the University of Oklahoma (OU). Fields was chosen as Most Valuable Player (MVP) on his high school team ahigh-schoolnd was an All-State honoree. At Oklahoma, he earned four letters and gained All Big Eight Conference honors on two occasions. Fields was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, but opted to play for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Fields graduates from East Jefferson and is named District 7-AAAA player of the year, All-State and Quad-A All-Prep MVP.

Fields attends the University of Oklahoma (OU).

1978-1983
Fields is groomed as a dribbler to replace Curly Neal for the Harlem Globetrotters and was nicknamed “Fast Eddie.” He also played along Globetrotter greats such as Meadowlark Lemon, Geese Ausbie, Sweet Lou Dunbar, Billy Ray Hobley and Marques Haynes.

Fields returns to OU to complete his student teaching requirements and receives a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

1985-1986
Fields becomes head basketball coach at Academy Central.

1986-1989
Fields is named the men’s assistant basketball coach at South Plains College.

1989-1990murray-state
Fields serves as interim head men’s basketball coach/assistant coach at Drake University (Drake).

1990-1991
Fields is the assistant women’s basketball coach at Drake.

1991-1993
Fields is the assistant men’s basketball coach at Murray State University (MSU).

1993-2003Eddie-Delgado
Fields becomes the head women’s basketball coach at MSU.

2004-2007
Fields relocates back to New Orleans and returns to the classroom as a teacher in the Orleans Parish School Board system.

2008-Present
Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Delgado Community College.
